Hemky Madera stars as Pote in USA Network’s hit drama, QUEEN OF THE SOUTH.
A proficient actor on stage and on-camera, Madera made his debut in the television production of “Grandes Series Dominicanas,” and went on to star in the mini-series “En La Olla,” followed by “Trio en Alta Mar,” both directed by Alfonso Rodriguez. He also appeared on sitcoms “Los Electrolocos” and “Ciudad Nueva.” Additionally, Madera starred in the mini-series “Asalto en la Lincoln.”
After returning to the United States, he has appeared in the feature films, “Dreaming of Julia” with Harvey Keitel and Gael García Bernal, in “The Lost City” with Andy García, Dustin Hoffman, and Bill Murray, in “The Wrath of Cain” with Ving Rhames and Robert Patrick and also did voice work in “Rango,” alongside Johnny Depp amongst others and in the television film “Murder in Mexico: The Bruce Beresford Redman Story.”
On television Madera has appeared in “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” “The Shield,” “Brothers & Sisters,” “My Name Is Earl,” “The Good Guys,” “The New Normal,” “New Girl,” “From Dust till Dawn,” “Agent X,” “Ash vs The Evil Dead,” “The League,” “Bosch,” “Blue Bloods” and a 17 episode arc as drug cartel goon Ignacio in “Weeds.” His film credits include: “Beautiful Twisted,” “Murder in Mexico” and “The Preppie Connection.”
On stage he first appeared in “Pantallas” at Santo Domingo's Great National Theater. In the United States he has appeared in Inverse Theater's production of Icarus and Aria and the New York Spanish Repertoire's production of Feast of the Goat as well as assorted other stage productions, i.e. “Life is a Dream,” “The Mistress of the Inn,” “Chronicles of a Death Foretold,” “Blood Weddings,” “Midnight Brainwash Revival,” “Burning the Bridges,” and Belisa's “Capriciousness.”
Born in Queens, New York, Madera moved to the Dominican Republic at the very early age of two months old and has been an influential figure in the arts community.
